How important is it to sit with yourself?
It is actually the most important thing. Giving time to yourself does not mean yoga, meditation, and skin care; it is sitting with those uncomfortable feelings that you have been escaping from.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Why would someone like to feel uncomfortable?
This discomfort brings relief. It is like sitting with your fears, guilts, wrongs, hurts, and returning with acceptance of all that you feel. You feel at ease with those thoughts that even a glimpse of them was once enough to create great discomfort. Is not this a great victory?
Why would someone escape or suppress feelings when they can befriend or tame those little thorns that keep appearing in your life path? Of course, thorns will remain there; however, they can be friendly thorns who are not sharp enough to prick again, but strong enough to remind how that prick feels, although knowing and feeling are two different things. The pain won't feel again; it is just awareness of threat.
Switching off thoughts is never healthy, however healthy in case an important work needs immediate attention. However, for a clear mind and clear life, you need to return to your thoughts.
EVERYTHING in your life is secondary; first comes your responsibility to clarify your thoughts, address what is hurting you, taking away your peace, then only turn towards your important works.
Like you treat your deadlines, appointments, exams, physical health โ similarly, these healthy habits are necessary for long-term good mental health.
